The Best Time to Book a Wedding Photographer in Perth: Off-Peak Season Guide
Why choosing an off-peak date for your Perth wedding can mean more availability, more flexibility, and better value from your photographer and videographer.

A question I get almost as often as “how much does this cost?” is “when should we actually get married?” Most couples default to spring or autumn without thinking too hard about it — but the time of year you choose has a real effect on your budget, your availability options, and even how your photos and film turn out. Here's an honest look at Perth's wedding season, and why an off-peak date is worth genuinely considering.
Perth's Wedding Season, Month by Month
Perth has a Mediterranean climate: long, dry, sun-drenched summers and mild, wetter winters. That shapes the whole wedding calendar here.
Spring (September to November) — Perth's most popular wedding season. Wildflowers, mild days, golden late-afternoon light. Also the most competitive time to book a venue, photographer or videographer.
Summer (December to February) — Hot, dry and reliably sunny, which suits beach and outdoor ceremonies but also means shooting around the harshest midday light of the year. Second-busiest season after spring.
Autumn (March to May) — Warm days, cooler evenings, and some of the most flattering natural light of the year. Still solidly within peak demand, especially March and April.
Winter (June to August) — Perth's off-peak season. Cooler and wetter, but still mild by most standards, and by far the quietest time for venue and vendor availability.
Put together, October through April is peak wedding season in Perth — Saturdays in this stretch are the first to book out, and demand for photographers, videographers, venues and every other vendor is at its highest. May through September is the off-peak window: less crowded, less pressured, and often a genuinely easier season to plan in.

Why an Off-Peak Date Can Work in Your Favour
More date choice — Saturdays that would be booked out 12+ months ahead in peak season are far easier to secure
More flexibility from vendors — with a lighter calendar, photographers and videographers (myself included) often have more room to accommodate extra hours, additional locations, or a longer engagement session at the same rate
Faster turnaround — fewer weddings competing for editing time in the off-peak months usually means your gallery and film come back to you sooner
Venue and vendor pricing — many Perth venues quietly lower hire fees or add extras for off-peak dates, which frees up budget for the photography and videography you actually want
Better light for photography, more often than you'd expect — overcast winter skies act like a giant softbox, giving flattering, even light all day instead of the harsh midday sun you fight against in a January wedding
Booking Timelines: Peak vs Off-Peak
For a peak-season Saturday (spring in particular), most established Perth photographers and videographers are booked out 12 to 18 months in advance, sometimes longer for the most in-demand dates. For an off-peak weekday or winter Saturday, 3 to 9 months' notice is often still enough — though I'd always rather you book early and have peace of mind than leave it to chance. The main advantage isn't just avoiding a scramble; it's that you get to choose your date on your terms rather than working backwards from whoever happens to still be free.
What Off-Peak Weddings Actually Look Like in Perth
A winter or shoulder-season wedding in Perth doesn't mean compromising on the day you've pictured. Venues like State Buildings, Mandoon Estate, and Lamont's Bishops House have beautiful indoor spaces built for exactly this kind of weather, and a wet-weather backup plan is standard practice at most Perth venues rather than a last resort. Moody, dramatic skies over the Swan River or Kings Park often produce more striking, editorial images than a flat blue-sky day — some of my favourite frames have come from weddings where the forecast looked uncertain right up until the morning of.
If you're weighing up dates, it's worth browsing the gallery to see how different seasons and light actually translate into real wedding photography and film.

Ask About Availability for Your Date
Every couple's situation is different, so I'd rather have an honest conversation about your date than make a blanket promise here. What I can tell you is that outside the October to April rush, I typically have more flexibility to work with — on hours, on add-ons, and on how much time I can give your enquiry. If you're considering a winter or shoulder-season wedding, get in touch and I'll talk you through exactly what's possible for your date and your budget.

How This Fits Your Overall Budget
Timing is one part of the budget picture — hours, deliverables and package tier matter just as much. For the full breakdown of realistic 2026 pricing across every package level in Perth, see our complete wedding photography and videography price guide.
Whatever time of year you choose, the goal is the same: a day that feels like you, captured honestly, without you having to compromise on the memories you walk away with.
FAQ
Not at all. Perth winters are mild rather than harsh, and plenty of couples have beautiful weddings between May and September — often with more venue and vendor availability than during peak season.
Roughly May through September. October through April is peak season, when demand for venues and vendors, including photographers and videographers, is at its highest.
It depends on the vendor, but many Perth venues and suppliers offer more flexible pricing or added inclusions during quieter months simply because demand is lower. It's always worth asking directly what flexibility is available for your specific date.
No — overcast and rainy conditions often produce softer, more flattering light than a harsh midday sun, and most venues have indoor backup spaces. Some of the most striking wedding photography comes from days with moody skies.
It's still worth booking as early as you can, since preferred photographers and videographers can get booked up regardless of season — but you'll generally have more choice and flexibility than trying to secure a peak-season Saturday, where 12 to 18 months' notice is common.
