A same day edit is one of my favourite parts of filming a wedding. It's a short film — usually three to five minutes — that I shoot and edit on the day itself, then screen at your reception before the night's over. Instead of waiting weeks to relive the ceremony, you and your guests get to see a same day edit again together, the same night.
Why Couples Love It
There's something different about watching your ceremony back while you're still in your dress, surrounded by the same people who were there for it. I've filmed same day edits at receptions where the room goes quiet during the vows and erupts during the reception shots — it becomes part of the celebration, not just something you watch later at home.
What to Expect on the Day
I start filming in the morning — getting ready, the ceremony, portraits — the same as any wedding day. Once the ceremony wraps and everyone moves to the reception, I go straight into editing. That gap between courses, speeches, and dancing is when the film comes together. By the time the DJ's ready for the bridal waltz, your same day edit is usually ready to play.
How It's Made
The honest answer is: quickly, and with a lot of practice. I shoot with the edit in mind from the first photo of the morning, so I already know which moments I want before editing even starts. Most of the cut happens on-site, on a laptop, while everyone else is still celebrating.
